Why play it

In a world where the Litt have perished, a small pyron warrior embarks on a journey to find the King, the Primordial Flame, the last hope to save the world. Defeat mighty foes, unleash fiery attacks, and master parrying. Explore a beautifully hand-drawn world and uncover its secrets.

Story and worldbuilding

A small fire warrior with no memories goes on a journey to find the King—the only hope to save the world. Solateria, the land of the Sun, once prospered under the Primordial Flame’s blessings. But everything changed when the Shadow Plague—the most deadly catastrophe it ever faced—descended, pushing Solateria to the brink of ruin. You wake up as a small fire warrior with no memories of the past. The only thing you can recall is a voice urging you to find the vanished King and save the world. Defeat powerful bosses corrupted by the Shadow Plague through stylish, parry-focused combat, and begin your journey to find the King. In the end, you will have to confront the truth.

Solateria was honestly great game that actually can hold a mantel for itself with the plethora of metroidvania in the gaming market this year. It is a great distraction while we wait for the DLC for Silksong. From the amazing story and the rush of beating a boss after a nights rest is exhilarating . I highly recommend getting Solateria and get your parrying fix going. I give Solateria the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

The overall package is in incredibly charming despite the steep difficulty, and Soulslike Metroidvania fans would do well to add it Solateria their collection.

Fighting for an uncertain future is a theme most of us can resonate with. Who will be standing when the rubble settles, and what will be lost in the process? Solateria is a melancholic Metroidvania that borrows heavily from its counterparts but carves its personal path. The damaged characters you meet, the tragic bosses you fight, and the rich biomes you explore all have something to say.

When it comes to Solateria, I had a very fun time exploring the vast world that the game had to offer, as there were plenty of secrets to find both in terms of loot and lore, while also having plenty of challenges to overcome. Speaking of challenges, I massively enjoyed the combat, as it wasn’t just difficult for difficulty’s sake, but it was challenging enough that it kept me engaged and encouraged me to learn the parry and dodge windows so that I was able to conquer my enemies efficiently. The game’s story itself was very heartbreaking as I played through, as a lot of the bosses had very sad backstories that drew on my heartstrings, while also having NPC characters that also had their own stories to tell, while also adding to the main game’s story in their own way.
