Why play it

Immerse yourself in the dreamlike world of Melobot - A Last Song, an adventure, action, and rhythm game that thrusts you into a heroic quest to save a planet plagued by a strange disease. You play as Melobot, a lovable musical robot originally designed for peace, and awaken to a vital mission: revive the planet’s unique flora by recreating their songs and overcoming the challenges set by powerful guardians.

Story and worldbuilding

Play music to survive! This is why your creator made you, a little Melobot that just woke up on this perilous planet. Come and protect the Meloplants, roam the lands filled with deadly robots and investigate the downfall of humanity... Your mission hinges on one powerful tool: music! Master a diverse set of instruments to breathe life into each region and gear up for intense showdowns with fierce Guardians in duels that will test your limits. Despite its small size and lack of combat programming, Melobot must find the courage and creativity to overcome these challenges. The fate of the planet rests in your hands, and only you can save it.

A musical adventure that offers few reasons to make us want to further explore its world or refine its mechanics.

Melobot – A Last Song is an approachable rhythm title with a clear environmental message that I appreciated. Working its series of momentary melodies into an entertaining albeit repetitive experience, the game may disappoint players looking for more complex musical mechanics. Melobot makes itself as accessible as possible with simple UI design and a comprehensive map, coupled with limited difficulty and lenient punishment when failing.

Anomalie Studios created a delightful yet thought-provoking story and I am here for it. They gave me the impression that Melobot was well loved when developing and it shows. I had been craving something a little different game-play wise for a while and Melobot delivered that to me. A word of advice though; do not underestimate this game in terms of ease. Imagine you are a first time PC player. Remembering where keys are for your attacks and moving your mouse to ensure you’re kept out of harms’ way? Ooft. It’ll be a quick boss fight and you’d be the reason for it. I am totally not speaking from experience here…

Melobot – A Last Song has a lot going for it. The music and art mesh together beautifully in a quirky little game about restoring a once-beautiful world to its former glory. The game is great for those looking for something cozy to round off their rhythm game collection. With Elements about taking care of the environment, it’ll be great for kids as well.

Melobot - A Last Song has so much to offer in a tiny package, but you won't be disappointed with how much there is to see and hear. It's a great change of pace if you're a fan of anything music-related, and if you can look past the sprint issue, you'll be in for what might be the most relaxed gameplay ever.

Melobot - A Last Song is not just a game but a true art form. The idea of performing gameplay actions through music is truly brilliant. Of course, we would have preferred more diversification between maps and the addition of more interesting mechanics as the game progresses. Nevertheless, we still appreciated the work done by Anomalie Studio. On an artistic level, we are at a decidedly high level, thanks to super-coloured and cartoony graphics that convey a sense of calm and relaxation to the player.
