Beautifully animated, wonderfully voiced and witty to boot, Loco Motive ticks a lot of right boxes for point and click likers. If only its underlying mystery wasn't quite so sidelined and predictable.

Loco Motive combines wit, charm, smarts, and its own brand of pixel art perfection to provide a point-and-click murder mystery that's well worthy of its predecessors. The game's state at launch is a little too marred by bugs for an unqualified recommendation on Switch, but give it time and we think it'll be right back on track.

Loco Motive is a gem to behold for lovers of the genre or casuals alike. It’s an obvious recommendation made not just because I’m an adventure gaming fan writing this review, but as someone who appreciates a good game, and god dammit, this is one of those! You’d do well picking this up regardless of which system you own – you won’t be disappointed.

With genuinely funny writing, superb voice acting and animations, Loco Motive is a modern homage that is sometimes a little too faithful to the LucasArts adventure games that pioneered the genre back in the day.

Loco Motive is charming at times, but the constant scars of its nature as the studio's first game prevent the experience from realizing its full potential. With a little more polish and a better balance between tragedy and comedy, Robust Games could have made something truly special, but they ended up with something frustratingly far from the finish line.

You can see the attention to detail and love put into Loco Motive. It's a high-quality game that respects its point-and-click predecessors while carving out its own identity as a graphic adventure. Juggling three characters does lead to occasional pacing hiccups, a few less satisfying puzzles, and a couple of other minor issues. Still, this talkie adventure is great fun with a rewarding payoff.

Loco Motive arrived suddenly, without much announcement or fanfare, promising nothing and delivering everything. A picturesque story, colorful characters, solid gameplay and glorious visuals, it is one of the best point and click games currently available.

Loco Motive is a very well performed and funny point and click adventure with a memorable cast of characters. The majority of puzzles are structured well, though there are some that are very out there, and sometimes characters can get ahead of themselves before the story has caught up with them, but this is easy to recommend.

Loco Motive isn’t just a game; it’s an experience—a hilarious, heartfelt, head-scratching romp through a murder mystery with more twists than a railway track. Yes, the pacing can be slow, and bugs like Don disappearing might momentarily derail your fun. But the witty writing, stellar voice acting, and replay value make up for it in spades. So, don’t miss this one if you fancy yourself a detective, love a bit of slapstick, and appreciate a good jazz track. Robust Games and Chucklefish have struck gold—or should I say platinum? This one’s a Thumb Culture Platinum Award, without a doubt. Now, what are you waiting for? Grab your detective hat, board the Reuss Express, and solve this mystery together. And don’t forget—comment below with what excites you most about Loco Motive!
