Why play it

An artful reimagining of Pong, qomp2 picks up the story where the delightful indie platform-puzzler qomp left off in 2021. Control a Pong ball aching to break free of its life stuck between two paddles. Explore a dangerous, minimalist world, armed with simple two button controls: tap a button to change direction by 90 degrees, and hold down a button to unleash a cathartic dash forward. That’s all you need to solve environmental puzzles and labyrinthine levels. Around each corner is a new challenge that will test your two-button and problem-solving skills. A variety of difficult enemies and bosses help you mark your time as you navigate through 30 levels spread across four worlds. A cerebral puzzler lies within the heart of this indie twist on Pong.

qomp 2 is an excellent and worthy reimaging of Pong that honours the classic arcade game's legacy while providing a unique experience for folks with no nostalgia for Atari's seminal masterpiece. It offers a consistently interesting and engaging means of traversal with a great variety of obstacles and puzzles to overcome throughout the 30 stages. We would have liked a few more levels in the end, but this is really just an indication of the quality on display here. If you're into quirky action-focused puzzlers with a unique hook, then qomp 2 is definitely worth your attention.

If anything, I’m grateful to qomp2 for introducing me to the concept, and eventually to experiencing the first qomp. I can see why that game hit the way it did, and inspired Atari to pick it up and try its own version. It’s a cool subversion of one of gaming’s oldest-standing innovators. But it feels shortsighted to hand the project off to a different set of hands, when the first set is the one that made the magic happen in the first place. And there’s genuine effort here, but the vibes are off, man.

Qomp 2's premise is novel but it is mercifully short. It becomes too annoying to play and there is no replay value. The puzzles and exploration are only made challenging because of the way the ball does its own thing, and once the correct path or sequences are apparent, there is not much else here - yet it is also the entire backbone that Qomp 2 relies on, ultimately becoming a shallow experience.

Qomp2 is a genuine and creative reinterpretation of a foundational title in the gaming industry. Challenging and at times frustrating, it delivers surprising sensations and twists, offering variable longevity based on your reflexes and strategic skills.

qomp2 is an interesting title that certainly isn't for everyone. The limited controls make for an equally frustrating yet rewarding experience once you master the mechanics. The difficulty starts off fine, but the quick ramp-up will throw people off guard. The infinite lives, generous checkpoints, and some of the more helpful options help mitigate the ramp-up, but don't be surprised if you get stumped often. If you have a high level of patience and a love for unusual concepts and controls, you're the perfect candidate to enjoy the qomp2 experience.

Despite its minor flaws, qomp2 is a really addictive game that you'll find hard to put down. Even its difficulty won't put you off, and you'll happily endure the few hundred deaths and restarts from the last checkpoint. Yes, it will frustrate you at times, but rarely will you feel that it's being unfair to you.

If you enjoy being tested without a complex storyline, then Qomp2 could be for you. The basic puzzles and layers of difficulty keep you coming back for more. Additionally, the boss levels add some unique elements to prevent things from becoming stale. As such, I enjoyed it and I recommend buying it here! Can you leave the paddles behind? Break free, avoid obstacles, and complete every level.

qomp2 is such a pleasurable adventure that it leaves you wanting more. If the game has a flaw, it's perhaps the lack of content: 30 super quick levels to beat and achievements to unlock, but that's it.

I did not enjoy my time with qomp2. I found it to be boring, frustrating and not very fun overall.

What qomp2 offers players is a range of well-structured challenges that manage to deliver a lot with little. Even though it ends quickly, it's the kind of adventure that's worth every second invested.
