Why play it

King's Well is a steampunk-themed roguelite deckbuilder where players use high-stakes poker logic to power industrial machine combat. After a kingdom falls into ruin due to a gambling plague, the King casts the most notorious gamblers into The Well; a deep, industrial pit filled with rusted machinery and failed experiments. To earn your freedom, you must salvage derelict weapons and "fuel" them using your gambling skills. This time, you aren't playing for money; you are playing for your life.

Story and worldbuilding

In King’s Well kingdom, the punishment for gambling is harsh. You have been thrown into a pit, forced to play against ruthless machines for your life. But what they don’t have are your cunning strategies and card skills. Feed strange artefacts that populate the King’s Well with your cards to trigger attacks, defences, and special effects to chain powerful combos. Shop for upgrades and new weapons and fight powerful bosses and, if you’re lucky, you will grow strong enough to be able to climb back to the surface. Players will be able to choose between four different gamblers, like the Iron Veteran or the High Roller, each with their own starting weapons. The game will force you to navigate a procedurally generated map where every stop is different – facing enemies, events, and high-risk choices on your way back to freedom. Every choice during a combat will matter: it’s not only about what cards you use to trigger your weapons, but playing them strategically so the ones remaining in your hand trigger secondary bonuses linked to poker figures (pair, three of a kind, flush, etc).
