Mudborne is a niche, fun puzzle adventure that succeeds in so many areas. It boasts a deep and well thought out core mechanic that makes breeding and rearing frogs genuinely enjoyable, and offers a cozy sense of exploration that coalesces into a very enjoyable game. The mechanics demand a reliance on a lot of menus and submenus which can get a little fiddly, but the chill soundtrack will easily soothe any of those stresses out of you as you play. Mudborne is a thoroughly unique premise that’s just patiently waiting for more players to hop into.

Mudborne is a beautiful example of how a small indie game can do everything right: tight systems, a clear artistic vision, and gameplay that surprises and delights. Whether you’re here for the genetics, the frogs, the puzzles, or just the vibes, Mudborne delivers. It’s smart but never overwhelming, chill but never shallow, and visually striking in a way that makes it stand out in a crowded genre. If you’re a fan of Apico, Wilmot’s Warehouse, Baba Is You, or just really into frogs—you won’t want to miss this.

Mudborne is a fairly complex puzzle game. If you're after a game that requires plenty of logical thinking and some planning, then you'll probably enjoy your time with this one. But if you're after a relaxing game that lets you settle down on an evening and enjoy some downtime, this probably isn't a game for you. It does, however, run beautifully on the Steam Deck, requiring no configuration to get working. With a low TDP Limit required for 60 FPS, you can't ask for much more.
