MLB The Show 26 is a competent, iterative update to a series that has been making competent, iterative updates for the better part of a decade.

MLB The Show 26 is an excellent baseball sim when assessed in a vacuum, but some fans may want to wait for a bolder franchise refresh.

Still, MLB The Show 26 comes down to playing ball, and in that sense, it still remains capable of draining away chunks of your day (or week). Few sports games have done as well in mastering the soul of its sport. The pacing, tension, and strategy of the game translate wonderfully, and it's still the best day at the gaming ballpark you can find.

MLB The Show 26 is once again a comprehensive sports game this year, superior to most of its competitors, even for the discerning European audience that isn’t particularly interested in America’s most popular sport.

MLB The Show 26 is a confident and enjoyable evolution of the series that continues to refine its gameplay in smart and meaningful ways. The additions of modern baseball systems and improvements to Road To The Show show a clear understanding of what players want. However, on Nintendo Switch 2, it feels like a half step forward. The performance gains are appreciated, but the lack of visual upgrades keeps it from feeling like a true leap. For baseball fans, there is still plenty here to love. Just do not expect it to fully take advantage of the hardware it is running on.

MLB The Show 26 handles baseball better than ever before. If you’re new to the series — or you’ve skipped a few yearly releases — you’re getting, without question, the best version in the franchise’s history.

Stunning but "dated": World Series-caliber gameplay in a graphics engine that feels outdated. That's the paradox: it drives you wild… and then, in the blink of an eye, it reminds you why you just can't put it down.

While past entries felt like something to look forward to, it now feels like MLB the Show is long overdue for a big change, and here's hoping it comes next year.
