Incantation is okay, but it begs the question of why it needed to be made. The story keeps a steady pace and doesn’t drag on, but playing through can feel rather dull. Since the encounters are heavily scripted, and for the atmosphere, it never really feels present in the whole game either. No buildup, nothing. The upside with Incantation is that I never had any technical issues. So, for me, I think the game deserves the Thumb Culture Bronze Award.

Incantation is a story-driven game that expands on the lore from the hit 2022 film. The dark, creepy atmosphere makes the mysterious village a place you want to stay far away from, but the story will keep you engaged and wanting to find out more. Incantation may be a short game, but it will leave a lasting impact and is a story to be remembered. “Hou-ho-xiu-yi, si-sei-wu-ma!”

If you’re willing to be patient on the more suspenseful moments and scares, there’s at least some payoff here, but there’s also a lot of downtime and general disappointment in between

Incantation delivers a deeply unsettling horror experience inspired by Asian folklore and ritualistic terror. Its oppressive atmosphere and exceptional sound design easily stand out, even if its short runtime leaves players wanting more.

It’s got some flaws, but so does the human experience, and Incantation embraces the madness, the terror and the very real sense of trying to save someone who may be beyond saving. It’s scary, it’s stressful, and it’s got moments of sad beauty that keeps you invested in the story until the brutal end. People who’ve watched the movie will have a fantastic new perspective, but those coming in cold will still find a tense, upsetting experience that really makes you question: what cost is too great?

Incantation by Softstar Entertainment offers an original blend of horror and adventure. The atmospheric setting and unique graphics will draw you into a story full of mystery. You’ll find yourself in a dark world where every decision you make plays a crucial role. The soundtrack further intensifies the gaming experience. This horror title doesn’t shy away from presenting a raw exploration of grief and the limits of what a person would be willing to go to for the sake of love. It’s a haunting reminder of the fine line between devotion and despair. Overall, it’s a fascinating and terrifying journey—but one that’s definitely worth taking.
