HumanitZ offers a well-executed blend of survival mechanics and base-building with RPG elements and an open world set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse. It’s a game that’s primarily about atmosphere and survival. On the other hand, there are significant technical shortcomings, and while playing, you’ll find yourself grappling with the game’s technical glitches more than with its survival mechanics or zombies. At times, the gameplay becomes repetitive, and the story feels underdeveloped—it could have enriched the world with more powerful emotional moments. If the developers manage to polish the game, it will be one of the most solid titles in its genre. For now, it’s really up to each player to decide whether they’re willing to tolerate the large number of bugs.

Deep systems, enhanced AI, and a dynamic world give the game an immersive and tense feel. Despite a difficult start and a somewhat ambiguous narrative, the experience rewards patience and offers high replayability, making it a solid choice for fans of cooperative survival games.

HumanitZ feels like a great addition to a considerably-sized field of both theme and game genre. It blends in just enough realism to keep you in check, but provides the ability to change just how difficult you want those checks to be. Despite some initial frustrations, I was able to press on and find a good mix of playing survival and scenarios. If you’re someone who enjoys playing solo or with friends in games like DayZ, Project Zomboid, a 7 Days to Die, I think you would enjoy this one too. I’d have to give HumanitZ the Thumb Culture Gold Award.

HumanitZ has its flaws, suffering from inconsistent design features, some light bugs, and slow progression despite cutting out some of the depth featured in similar titles. However, it still makes for a worthy contender in its genre, striking a good balance between deep survival mechanics and beginner-friendly accessibility.

Overall, Humanitz takes an existing, well-established genre and sets a new benchmark. If you are a fan of titles such as “Rust” and “7 Days to Die,” to name a few, this game is for you. Don’t let the isometric view put you off; you will soon get used to it.
