Why play it

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a 2025 Adventure, Shooter game rated 9.4/10 from 26.4k ratings, with a main story of about 35h, available on PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 5.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a third-person action-adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by otherworldly creatures. Players control Sam Porter Bridges, a retired porter, as he traverses the open worlds of Mexico and Australia to connect isolated survivors to a wireless communication network called the Chiral Network. The core gameplay revolves around delivering packages across hazardous terrain, managing cargo weight, building infrastructure like roads and monorails, and navigating natural disasters. Combat has a greater focus than its predecessor, offering lethal and non-lethal options alongside stealth approaches. The game features asynchronous online elements where players can build structures visible to others.

Story and worldbuilding

Eleven months after the events of the first game, Sam Porter Bridges lives in quiet isolation near the former US-Mexico border with his adopted daughter Lou. The United Cities of America is now fully connected via the Chiral Network, and automated delivery robots have rendered human porters obsolete. When mysterious portals called "plate gates" begin manifesting across the world, linking distant continents, Sam is drawn back into action. Fragile, his former ally, recruits him to venture through one such portal into Australia, where scattered survivors remain cut off from the rest of civilization, threatened by evolving ghostlike creatures, hostile bandits, and powerful machines. Sam and his companions aboard the tar-traversing ship DHV Magellan must cross an increasingly dangerous continent to connect its people before humanity faces extinction.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is fixated on revisiting past ideas, which limits its impact to being a good but not great sequel

A busier, louder, and more emotionally resplendent take on this singular hiking sim.

What keeps me coming back the most, though, and the reason I will continue to make deliveries after publishing this review, is Death Stranding 2’s boundless sincerity. The cast is fighting for connection and the future, and I am rooting for them, even when I think they’re being a little weird.

This is a mystifying and provocatively slow-paced game with more celebrities than you would find on a Cannes red carpet

While I’m playing “Death Stranding 2,” I keep thinking how it is the latest in a proud tradition of art that expands horizons and helps you identify with the beauty in life and living things, even as the truth of it all eludes us. If you care about that, consider this review an urging but friendly recommendation. Trust me, you’ll love this.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is an epic, big budget sequel to Kojima's controversial cult classic. It offers a better story, an excellent cast of characters, and beautiful world to reconnect.

Death Stranding 2 is a technological achievement with an emotional story that keeps you delivering through the apocalypse, and more variety in its gameplay than its predecessor to help solidify it as another Kojima classic. It's one of his best works in quite some time.
