Roguelite fans will likely get some mileage out of Clawpunk, though the difficulty curve starts steep and flattens out fairly quickly, which may not satisfy more hardcore players. It ends up sitting somewhere in between, neither fully casual nor deeply demanding. Still, it remains a fair and thoughtful attempt at putting a fresh spin on the roguelite formula.

Sometimes, even good games fall through the cracks due to the sheer number of titles that exist, especially in the indie gaming scene. After playing Clawpunk, I hope more people discover this. It might not do anything wholly new or unique, but it does a great job with almost everything that matters. The addictive gameplay and amount of content kept me invested, and Clawpunk has great character. The steep difficulty curve and lack of accessibility options might put some players off, but this is a great complement to the Steam Deck library.

Putting you in control of an expanding team of cats, hell-bent on reclaiming their city, Clawpunk is a riotous 2D action game with a style all of its own. Its roguelite elements mean that it starts tough but gets somewhat easier over time, though there are unlockable modes that offer an increased challenge. It's just a shame that sometimes it can be a little too chaotic for its own good.

Sometimes, all you want is a game that provides a quick blast of action, and Clawpunk delivers that in spades. If you just want to cause mayhem and blast away enemies for a few hours, there are worse ways to pass the time than with this game.

For players who enjoy chaotic action, challenging roguelite gameplay, and replay-driven progression, CLAWPUNK is a standout indie title. While its steep difficulty curve may not appeal to everyone, those who embrace its style will find a ferocious, synth-driven experience that’s hard to put down.

Unfortunately, CLAWPUNK is not for everyone, but if you enjoy hard 80s-style gameplay, you won’t be disappointed. As uncompelling as the gameplay is, CLAWPUNK delivers a graphical explosion with neon flair and great music. With a great variety of cards, enhancing a cat makes customisation and experimentation fun.

Some neat ideas, and it absolutely has its own style, but the often-erratic play can make it tough to consistently enjoy

Descending through the chaotic 2D stages of CLAWPUNK will make you feel like one badass feline, especially when you start achieving S-ranks. 😼

CLAWPUNK is, overall, a title with a strong identity that is striking for how immediate it manages to be and at the same time rich in nuances and depth.

CLAWPUNK looks incredible. Pixelated games aren’t for everyone. I’ve played so many indie and retro games that it has become the norm. CLAWPUNK brilliantly infused dated visuals with a clean and modern colour palette. The use of neon and lighting helps to create depth and drama. Moreover, it is incredibly smooth and runs at 60+ FPS. The audio is hellishly aggressive. The music bumps and shouts as you dive down each arena. Moreover, the sound effects will make your eardrums cry. Consequently, it is a loud and in-your-face title. The controls are remarkably slick, and the tutorial is easy to follow. As such, players will slay robots, leap platforms, and smash the environment in no time at all. Thanks to the rogue-lite elements and the tough action, CLAWPUNK has plenty of replay value. It will break your soul, but it has a fair, albeit tough, nature. CLAWPUNK is tough but fun. I enjoy tough games, but I have to be in the right mood. Luckily, CLAWPUNK caught me on a good week, as I loved every element. The unlocking system is simple but effective, and I adore the aesthetics. Moreover, it has plenty of replay value and will keep me coming back for more. Accordingly, it is tough but fun, and I recommend getting it from the Xbox store!
