There are some questionable design decisions in its lack of a visual combo counter, diminutive sprites, and stop-start upgrade screens, and the average action gamer will feel swamped by its narrative and overload of possible configurations. At the same time, it's an undeniably impressive in scope: a mathematical formula of character building that's as flexible as it is complex.Boomers should probably step away, but for those who live to mine roguelikes to the nth degree, it's something of a treat.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect isn’t a bad game at all; the story is confusing and has seemingly no connection at all to the BlazBlue games but its gameplay is what you come for. Overall presentation isn’t bad but like all games of the genre, it gets repetitive in the end. But I must say that I was hooked on its gameplay loop but I still don’t know anything about any of these BlazBlue characters but sometimes a great gameplay loop is all you really need anyway.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect X represents a formidable, motivating, and rewarding challenge for a fair price, although the in-game progression may not retain your interest beyond a certain point.

It features many selectable characters with endless options for attacks, powers, and combos, just the right amount of challenge, impeccable visuals, and visceral and fun combat.

BlazBlue: Entropy Effect X is one of those rarities that hits all the key elements very well. The core experience is great, possessing incredible depth that adds to the urge to replay. For fans of either the source material or the roguelite genre, this is an easy recommendation. From the art to the fun of making overpowered builds, players will keep wanting to have just one more run.

However, in a more objective assessment, it suffers from minor quality dips in some areas, such as reused sprites, a visual modification detrimental to the original design, and music that doesn't quite match the game's rhythm and is weak compared to other games, preventing it from standing out as spectacular in a competitive genre.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect X focuses on style over formula, with intense abilities and a good selection of avatars, which may not be enough to please roguelite fans and could make the experience repetitive very quickly due to its simple progression system and lack of variety in scenarios and enemies. Still, the game faithfully translates the combat experience of Arc System Works games into a new genre. It's a shame that the Switch version doesn't deliver the best experience, especially in essential parts of the narrative where cutscenes disappear or hinder you during combat. However, these are aspects that can still be improved.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is the definitive version of 2023’s addictive roguelike. While the previous release had few connections to the overall series, the expanded story by the original writers is a highly welcomed addition. Narrative aside, the solid gameplay is what will truly hook players and keep them coming back for more.
