Alchemist: The Potion Monger is a big game with an innovative potion-making system that is very challenging to figure out. It’s colorful, has decent sound design, has a lot of NPCs, and has a whole bunch of quests. The world is huge, and you have to fight stuff out in the wild with a combat system that doesn’t feel great. Overall, Alchemist: The Potion Monger is pretty fun. The world is huge but kind of empty. There is a lot that is good about it, but some things I think will not sit well with some people. However, I do think that Alchemist: The Potion Monger is worth the price. It’s cute, it’s colorful, it’s fun, it’s cozy, but it is a little bit of a pain to figure out. If you like sprawling games with a lot to do and fun little quests that are pretty chill, there are far worse games you could pick up than Alchemist: The Potion Monger.

Personally I found the potion making process to be the most fun part of the game, and I do hope that the developers keep on expanding on that idea for a potential sequel or other game. That being said, the game just doesn't feel fully finished. Don't get me wrong now, there is a full game there with a start to end, and with content to justify its asking price. However, as much as I like the cell shaded look of the game, it just feels a bit "off." The more I played the more it felt like the game needed just a bit more time on the presentation side of everything (in particular the eerie animals in town). It would also not have hurt to have more music in the game, as it mainly has one song on a constant loop. After a few hours it becomes fairly grating to the ears.

Alchemist: The Potion Monger is a unique experience that can be enjoyable for certain players. It is an accessible title for the most casual gamers or a nice break from the online world of competitive multiplayer games. It is family-friendly, and those with a love of animals may love its cutesy, colourful aesthetics. Don’t let the simplistic-looking screenshots sway you from giving this one a try, because there is a surprisingly deep 8-10 hours of gameplay here if you want it.
