Whisper of the House is a cosy decorating sim where unpacking rooms slowly reveals hidden secrets and unsettling anomalies.

Whisper of the House expands the satisfying “unpack and arrange” formula into an entire town filled with errands, secrets, and strange little anomalies. It’s charming and clever, though uneven pacing and a fizzling finale keep it from greatness. For fans of cozy sims who don’t mind some rough edges, it’s a rewarding—if slightly unfinished—experience.

Whisper of the House combines the calmness of tidying up with a subtle mystery, exporting the ideas of Unpacking to an entire village. Its story is also revealed through the objects you place, with delightful pixel art. Recommended for fans of cozy games despite its technical and localization flaws.

Whisper of the House is a perfectly cozy game, with a bit of adventure, a bit of intrigue, and a lot of unpacking. I think that if you enjoy this type of game, you’ll likely appreciate this one as well.

Whisper of the House, at its best, gives me a lot of the joy I found when playing Unpacking, and if you’re looking for more of that feeling, then you could certainly do a lot worse. There’s also an intriguing mystery here that gives you a reason to keep searching through Whisper Town even when you aren’t setting up a house. While there is fun to be had here, every time it gets away from simply unpacking places, the experience simply isn’t as cohesive.

If you enjoy games like Unpacking or Make Room, Whisper of the House is one to check out. Whether you’re drawn in by the cozy unpacking and design or intrigued by hidden secrets, this game has plenty of both. But players beware, there’s more than meets the eye. The only way to uncover it is by playing it yourself.

While it has a long way to go in terms of bug fixes, content updates and finishing touches, Whisper of the House shows a lot of promise and offers a unique take on the cozy genre. On the surface it's an upbeat unpacking game, but underneath there are darker tones to uncover for those looking to unravel a mystery.
