Unrailed 2: Back on Track is a fitting follow-up to a game that already had a loyal following behind it. Expanding the core idea with more biomes, a deeper upgrade system, boss encounters, Terrain Conductor mode, and a genuinely improved attempt at solo play, all wrapped in a colorful, chaotic package that's easy to pick up and hard to master cleanly.

Unrailed 2: Back on Track is exactly the sequel I was hoping for. It preserves everything that made the original special while introducing enough new ideas to justify its existence. The deeper progression systems, boss encounters, expanded customisation, improved solo experience, and increased variety all help elevate what was already a fantastic concept. Most importantly, it never loses sight of what made the first game so enjoyable: the simple joy of working together to build a railway before disaster strikes. Whether you’re playing alone, with family, or with a group of friends shouting instructions at one another across the sofa, there’s an incredible amount of fun to be found here. If you loved the original, this is an easy recommendation. If you’ve never played Unrailed before, this is arguably the best place to start. Train building has rarely been this frantic, this funny, or this satisfying.

Unrailed 2!: Back on Track is an excellent sequel that, despite some minor flaws, proves to be a huge step forward compared to its predecessor in every aspect imaginable.

Unrailed 2: Back on Track is the evolution of the first title in the best possible way, enhancing the original chaos with a layer of challenge that can even be somewhat punishing for those playing alone, but is perfect for gathering a group of friends to take your train as far as possible… or let it catch fire while arguing about who should grab the bucket.

The game is often chaotic and a bit clunky or confusing, but that's precisely what makes it so appealing.

Despite a rough start and a very shallow tutorial, Unrailed! 2: Back on Track proved itself to be a very fun game, delivering a gameplay loop that feels familiar to party game players while still being highly entertaining thanks to the chaos it creates, making it an excellent experience for anyone looking for a chaotic co-op game.

Unrailed 2 is a sequel that carries on the legacy of its predecessor, for better or worse. While it attempts to add more depth to some of the original game's simpler and less refined elements, the changes ultimately fall short of feeling truly transformative. If you enjoyed the first game, you'll likely be satisfied with what it offers. However, those looking for something significantly beyond the original experience may come away disappointed.
