Trident's Tale by 3DClouds is an ambitious and largely successful attempt to breathe new life into the pirate genre on PC. It offers a rich and engaging story, a diverse and charismatic crew, and, above all, seamless and entertaining gameplay both at sea and on land. The ship and equipment upgrade system is satisfying and encourages constant exploration and resource gathering. Epic boss battles are the icing on the cake, putting your skills and tactical thinking to the test. The visual style is charming, and the soundtrack perfectly underscores the adventurous atmosphere. In my opinion, it’s truly the absolute best among pirate games.
Read full review ↗Trident’s Tale delivers a colorful and whimsical pirate adventure that’s perfect for younger audiences, but it stumbles in execution. While its vibrant world and lighthearted storytelling are charming, the predictable narrative and repetitive quests lack substance. The stiff sailing mechanics, lackluster combat, and forgettable characters make it less appealing to seasoned players. Although it performs well technically, the world feels barren, limiting exploration and immersion. In the end, it fails to measure up to iconic pirate games like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag or The Wind Waker.
Read full review ↗Trident's Tale is a clunky adventure that has plenty of charm and variety so I still recommend it to curious chums who enjoy similar games. 🔱
Read full review ↗Trident's Tale is a pirate Adventure that, drawing on some well-known works in the videogame scene, presents itself as a light and at times light-hearted experience, with a quiet story without particolar depth in terms of direction and characters, and a simple and immediate gameplay. 3DClouds' work offers on the plate a half-succesful work: on the one hand there is a good exploratory component, a good progression system and nice and heterogeneous environmental puzzles; on the other hand the various technical problems regarding the camera view and the collisions stain the feeling of the combat system, which is also basically functional despite being shallow.
Read full review ↗Trident's Tale is a charming and enjoyable adventure, clearly aimed at children or families. Its colorful visuals and lighthearted style give it charisma, but minor errors and limitations prevent it from truly standing out. Hand-to-hand combat feels somewhat clunky, and naval battles, while interesting, unnecessarily increase the difficulty due to a design that is poorly suited to the controls.
Read full review ↗Dragged down a little by the perfunctory combat, Trident’s Tale is nonetheless a fun pirate adventure that nails the visuals, tonal balance, and jaunty music. It feels like an adventure, and the quirky cast of characters that you’ll meet combined with the charm of the world makes Trident’s Tale a title we at GF recommend to everyone out there… except landlubbers!
Read full review ↗It’s not a good game – and again, the voice acting and cutscenes and script are abysmal – but on the whole it’s not interesting enough to generate really strong feelings. It’s a bad game that’s also incredibly boring, which is just about the worst combination imaginable.

Read full review ↗Trident’s Tale is filled with strong ideas and pirate charm, but it’s not ready for prime time, at least not on Nintendo Switch. The technical issues are too glaring to ignore, from the blurry textures to the frame drops and janky animations. If a few substantial patches come down the line, or if the game sees a better-optimised release on other platforms or a potential Switch 2, this could become the fun, breezy adventure it clearly wants to be. Until then, consider holding off or checking it out elsewhere if possible. There’s a good game under the surface, but right now it’s buried under too many waves of performance problems.
Read full review ↗With Trident’s Tale being a weird mix of kid-friendly writing that at times made me feel like I was watching an episode of Blue’s Clues and a difficult combat loop, this could be the perfect family game. Trident’s Tale could be a great introduction for kids looking to try their hand at an action game without the grim tones that usually come with piracy. Unfortunately, for this reviewer, the charm of the cute art style and awkward dialogue wore off.
