Why play it

With your crack team and the help of the SmurfoMix, liberate the village of the Smurfs from the grip of the Green Stone!

Story and worldbuilding

Handy Smurf has created a revolutionary invention: SmurfoMix! However, it's missing a key ingredient, the Green Stone, which is in the greedy clutches of Gargamel. So Handy Smurf and his team set off on a mission to retrieve the famous stone from Gargamel's laboratory, but a fatal misstep causes it to explode, its fragments scattering throughout the Cursed Land. In addition to unleashing into the wild its incredible powers to copy and decompose matter, the Green Stone has set free the evil Stolas, a new order bent on creating a reign of terror. A crack team of 4 Smurfs must then adventure through various teleporters to find the fragments of the Green Stone and piece them back together before it plunges the world into chaos. Well equipped, the Smurfs can count on the SmurfoMix and an unexpected ally... Gargamel!

The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone is a bit better than the first game, but still quite ways away from the best titles of the genre.

The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone tried to change a lot of things compared to its predecessor, but at some points the makers rushed and forgot some positive elements of the first title.

Rather rarely do licensed titles based on cartoon IPs manage to push their conceptual boundaries and become something more. Fortunately, The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone is a pleasant exception. OSome Studio makes a fun, generous and lighthearted action platformer that is as suitable for the very young as it is for more seasoned players. Not all elements turn out to be flawless and some structural oversights exist, but one thing is certain: the Smurfs have found a very interesting road to travel, which hopefully can be further explored and expanded in the future.

The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone continues the excellent job of the previous game, with a creative narrative, new skills and an excellent alternation between the fun adventure and harder challenges. The perfect combination for those who love the blue creatures and 3D platformers.

The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone is a great adventure game for what it offers. It entertains and captures the essence of the Smurfs competently. Although it's not revolutionary, it's perfect for a relaxed family afternoon.

The Smurfs 2 – The Prisoner of the Green Stone delivers a smurf-tastic gaming experience that respects the beloved license. With its charming characters, engaging gameplay, and a dash of smurfy humor, it’s a journey that will leave you grinning from ear to ear.

After about 7 hours of playing you will have reached the end of the game and actually after about 2 hours you will notice that the monotony and flat gameplay starts to seem quite the same. The level design is quite nice here and there, but you are actually constantly jumping, dashing and shooting. The latter in particular starts to get really annoying at a certain point. Do not get me wrong; The Smurfs 2 is certainly not a bad game, and may be quite challenging for real young people to master, but otherwise it plays well and doesn't do anything terribly wrong.

Incredibly dull combat is enough to make The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone a clear step down from Mission Vileaf. You could do a lot worse, for sure, but its predecessor shows you can definitely do better, too.

The Smurfs 2: The Prisoner of the Green Stone knows exactly what it intends and how to make it work. With a story typical of the good old days of animation, charismatic protagonists and simple and effective mechanics, it is a light and fun game, as long as you don't expect more than it set out to offer.
