The Sinking City had a great idea, but it was ultimately poorly executed. The remaster was a chance to address its main flaws: combat playability, mission structure, and level design. However, only the graphics got attention when they never needed them. The revamped visuals do admittedly look very good and make Oakmont feel more immersive, but they were a misplaced priority when everything else was unbelievably poorly tuned.

The Sinking City Remastered does a lot to upgrade the original experience while maintaining its original structure. While the combat can be a bit uncomfortable in parts, it’s massively improved overall, but the real improvements come with the graphics. It’s almost shocking how much better this looks, especially right after playing the original version only the day prior. If you enjoyed The Sinking City, it is absolutely worth revisiting the game in The Sinking City Remastered. If you’ve never played The Sinking City, this is the perfect opportunity.

Even after arriving six years after the original, The Sinking City Remastered still feels like a rough gem, its investigative mechanics shine, but they're dulled by clunky combat, weak stealth, and a progression system that leans too heavily on uninspired, combat.
