The Precinct’s focus on proper protocol eventually wears a little thin, but its gorgeous, top-down take on GTA-inspired action from the right side of the law is undeniably arresting.

The Precinct is an impressive sandbox romp. Fueled by a dynamic crime system that offers up hours of fun, bite-sized objectives, it's a very difficult game to put down. Every patrol is different, and although tedium does start to set in as the campaign approaches its conclusion, it's still easy to appreciate the intricate and tight design of this ode to old cop movies.

Fallen Tree Games has created a game that doesn’t try to be anything it’s not and knows exactly what it has to offer: fast-paced, arcade-style action, a bit of investigation, and the chance to be the force of law and order for a while in a city where law and justice often end up down the drain. If you don’t mind a certain amount of repetition and can find joy in the very act of patrolling, chasing down criminals, and making quick arrests, The Precinct can offer you a decent amount of fun. It’s not GTA, nor is it a police simulator… but something in between. It’s precisely in that “in-between” space that its charm lies.

The Precinct is a truly excellent sandbox detective story inspired by the 80s, full of personality, with some flaws but also a lot of substance to offer.

The Precinct puts us in the shoes of a law enforcement officer in a city corrupt to the core in an interesting experience that pays homage to the police series and films of the 1980s. Its greatest strengths lie in the depth of its mechanics. However, the experience is marred by poor AI, a sloppy driving system, and repetitive activities. A game that is enjoyable, especially for those who, as children, once dreamed of becoming police officers amid the neon lights of Miami.

The Precinct starts with a promising premise, putting us in the shoes of a law enforcement officer in a crime-ridden city, but unfortunately fails to maintain this ambition throughout its execution. Despite offering accessible gameplay and an interesting progression system, the repetitive tasks, the over-reliance on grinding, the serious AI issues, and the lack of content variety ultimately make the experience frustrating in the medium to long term. The chases, which should be moments of tension and adrenaline, quickly become tests of patience. The shootouts, instead of challenging the player, become unbalanced and irritating. The lack of life outside of patrols, such as meaningful side activities or richer interactions with the world, leaves the city drab not only in terms of environment but also in terms of content. Still, it's clear that there's a concept here with potential. With tweaks to the AI, more mission variety, and improvements to gameplay fluidity, The Precinct could establish itself as a solid offering for those who've always wanted to be "the cop" GTA-style. Right now, it's an experience that might entertain for a few hours, but it's unlikely to hold interest in the long run, especially for those seeking depth or a truly vivid and engaging world.

Imagine Police Quest meets Hotline Miami—The Precinct nails the vibe but stumbles on narrative. At $30, it’s a fun (if flawed) indie cop sim.

It may not feel original, but The Precinct knows how to take that familiar beats and give you room to uphold law and order/cause chaos to your heart’s content.

The Precinct is an awesome cop simulator with a great atmosphere. The only shame about it is that, after a few hours of quality entertainment, the game becomes repetitive and doesn't offer much in the way of new content.
