Alawar has proven that seemingly incompatible opposites — a calming building game and a chilling conspiracy thriller — can work together as a completely organic whole. The Last Gas Station is an immensely refreshing addition to the simulator genre.

The Last Gas Station scratches that specific management sim itch where routine becomes relaxing, upgrades feel meaningful, and every improvement makes the next day more efficient. I do think it needs tuning in the latter half, maybe fewer extreme objectives, better control over customer volume, a fast-forward option, or a few more minigames. But the foundation is excellent.

A cosy and intriguing sim game that you won't be able to put down, seeing your store in The Last Gas Station come together is wonderfully rewarding. Add in the game's mysterious storyline and its beautiful pixelated graphics, and you've got something rather special.
