Tales of Berseria is still one of my favourite entries in the series, thanks to its excellent story and charming cast of characters. The gameplay is as fun as ever, and it's aged well since its debut nearly a decade ago. This remaster offers plenty of new features for those who've already experienced the game, and they're an extra cherry on top for newcomers. Beyond those quality-of-life additions, the port itself doesn't exactly go above and beyond, but if you're looking to play this game on the go, you can't go wrong here.

Tales of Berseria is still a high point of the series and the genre with its excellent storytelling, but the baffling decision to port a game that is readily available on modern platforms is puzzling.

If you're experiencing Tales of Berseria Remastered for the first time, you can expect an engaging story, though it comes with issues in level design and exploration. However, if you've already played the original version, there's no compelling reason to revisit this remaster.

Man, this one hurt me a bit. I was really hoping I’d love this game more than I did. And it’s not like I hate it either! The characters and story in Tales of Berseria keep me extremely engaged, but the actual gameplay part annoyed me deeply for so long that I couldn’t fully forgive it. Is the game much more fun by using the exp bonuses and the option to just turn off encounters? Oh yes, tremendously, but I just can’t feel good about the solution being “just don’t play this part; it sucks” rather than some more positive changes. It’s a remaster, people, come on! It has been 10 years! If you have already played and enjoyed the original Tales of Berseria, this doesn’t have anything new to make it worth your while. If you are a new player like me, I’d never suggest playing the original over this version.

For those who enjoy a straightforward revenge story with complicated combat, this is the game to play. There are no technical issues on Nintendo Switch; however, both story and characters seem to be a tad too predictable at times. Additionally, while combat promises interesting abilities and actions, the tutorials are too confusing to really get into it. Overall, Tales of Berseria Remastered lacks in its story and characters the most.

As someone who missed the original release of Tales of Berseria, I really enjoyed this remastered version. They story is about revenge, and is much darker than the typical JRPG but to me it also felt more earnest in its approach. While the developers made things prettier with the remaster, I do wish this was a full-fledged remake; but what’s here is a lot of fun.

Tales of Berseria Remastered is an odd release. The original game is still a good time, problems and all, but this release feels less like a remaster and more like a port with some additions. It has all the DLC from the original, but that just amounts to costumes, and it has some nice quality-of-life updates but nothing to buy a new game over. Still, this is a fine way to play Tales of Berseria, especially now that it's finally on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

A rewarding revisit with meaningful conveniences, even if it feels closer to a polished port than a full remaster.

It’s not perfect. Some of the older design choices and technical limitations are still present, and I do think the effort could have gone further in certain areas. But at its core, this is still a strong JRPG with a memorable story, a fantastic cast, and a deep combat system. I’m glad I finally played it. And if you’ve been on the fence, this version is probably the best way to experience it.
