Favoring slow atmosphere over adventure and complexity, Syberia – Remastered puts some slight polish on a stone that never shone too bright to begin with.

Microids managed to update the cult classic quest in terms of visuals, but the developers of Syberia – Remastered treated the other elements carelessly, also simplifying the puzzles, which are one of the game's key components..

In a mixture of sloppiness, haste, lack of resources, and perhaps overly ambitious plans, Syberia Remastered achieves less than it could have.

Syberia Remastered is an uneven revival. Its redesigned environments successfully capture the spirit and atmosphere of the original, but a couple of issues (visual and otherwise) prevent it from becoming the definitive version. For the uninitiated it’s a mostly accessible entry point into a classic story; for long-time fans, it’s an…okay reinterpretation. It's sadly one more reminder that preserving magic is sometimes harder than creating it in the first place.

Syberia remains one of the most unique graphic adventures ever created. On the one hand, the original has aged surprisingly well; on the other, this remaster suffers from some technical issues that prevent it from being considered the definitive version of the world imagined by Sokal. Despite these limitations, it remains a worthwhile experience, especially for those who have never played Syberia before.

In my opinion, Syberia Remastered is a missed opportunity. Beneath the beautiful, newly created 3D shell lies the same great—but equally outdated—game from 2002. Instead of sensitively bringing the game into the modern era, the developers settled for a half-hearted solution: they improved the environments but left the outdated animations, sound, and—most importantly—the original, blurry cutscenes intact. The result is an inconsistent and technically unpolished experience that constantly undermines the very atmosphere it strives to build. Although Kate Walker’s story remains timeless, this particular version does not do justice to its legacy.

For returning fans, it’s the perfect way to revisit Kate Walker’s journey — now more beautiful, more accessible, and more respectful than ever. For newcomers, it’s a piece of gaming history worth experiencing, as long as you’re ready for a reflective, story-first adventure rather than a puzzle gauntlet.

Syberia Remastered is definitely faithful to the spirit of the original version. Although this new version includes some welcome modernizations, it builds on the foundations of the 2002 title to bring players today a cult French point-and-click adventure story. However, it's a shame that Microids didn't take the step of remaking the game to push the concept further and perhaps avoid some of the clunky mechanics and technical flaws. Nevertheless, the game remains sincere and offers a nostalgic journey that is still worth checking out in 2025.

Syberia Remastered does a respectable job of blending classic adventure design with modern technical upgrades, honoring Benoît Sokal’s legacy while introducing his world to a new generation of players. Unfortunately, noticeable shortcomings - stiff animations, cutscene issues, and inconsistent audio mixing - undermine the experience more than they should.

Syberia Remastered does not aim to transform itself into something it never was. Its goal is to recapture the spark of the classic and present it in a cleaner way for today's players.
