Why play it

Sniper Elite V2 is a 2012 Tactical, Shooter game rated 8.2/10 from 25.7k ratings, with a main story of about 6.2h, available on PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360.

Sniper Elite V2 is the eagerly-awaited sequel to the highly-acclaimed Sniper Elite, giving gamers the most authentic World War II sniping experience available. You are elite US sniper Karl Fairburne. Parachuted into Berlin amidst the Germans’ final stand, your mission is to prevent Nazi V2 rocket program technology from falling into the hands of the besieging Red Army. You must aid key scientists keen to defect to the US, and terminate those who would help the Russians. Take advantage of authentic weaponry, learn how to stalk your targets, fortify your position, set up the shot, use your skill, patience and cunning to achieve your mission. Stealth gameplay is the key as you find yourself trapped between two desperate armies in a race against time. Watch as the celebrated ‘bullet cam’ from Sniper Elite returns, bloodier and more gruesome than ever – skilful shots are rewarded with a slow-motion flight of the bullet, then targets are graphically rendered in X-Ray as the bullet enters and destroys your victim. Organs shred, bones splinter, teeth shatter, as the true impact of the sniper’s bullet is brought to life. As World War Two ends and the Cold War begins, every shot counts. Use it wisely.

Story and worldbuilding

The main character is Karl Fairburne, an OSS officer who is inserted into Berlin in 1945, during the final days of World War II. It references Operation Paperclip and its predecessor Operation Overcast, the plan by the USA to recruit the scientists of Nazi Germany. Fairburne comes up against both Nazi and Soviet opponents as he tracks key individuals involved with the development of the V-2 ballistic missile.

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered isn't a terrible game, but it feels outdated and completely outclassed in 2019. While its x-ray exterminations are still appealing, it's just about the only factor making up this package that could turn one's head in today's world. Simply put, there are just so many better experiences you could have through the scope of a sniper rifle, including those sequels that make up the very franchise in question.

While Sniper Elite V2 Remastered isn’t the series' high point, it does offer a fine opportunity to sample its most enjoyable features – including scouting entire locations and taking incredible shots at even more incredible distances – on a brand new platform. However, while its long-range action is as gripping as ever, the more traditional run-and-gun sections stick out like a sore thumb, and the absense of auto-saving can lead to some frustrating moments.

It's fortunate that the series' brutal kill-cam's and strategic emphasis in gameplay persist here, as it's clear that V2 Remastered is far from complete a package the "remastered" brand might suggest.

Finding Sniper Elite V2 Remastered at the beginning can be strange, it is not exactly a game that we want to make a remaster, but Rebellion has found sense to offer us the opportunity to play on our current machines to the game that defined the franchise and as we know it today. For the remaster all downloadable content has been added, and also a photo mode has been added, which together with some extras more, and the relevant technical and graphic upgrade, make up a title that fans of the franchise and other war games will appreciate.

A remastered game is still the same old game, but with prettier graphics. Current owners of Sniper Elite 2 probably won't find better graphics to be worth a purchase, but new players wanting to start the venerable series near the beginning might want to give it a try.

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered still has the great shooting mechanics as the original. I had a blast sneaking my way behind enemy lines and seeing all of the glorious x-ray kill cams. Single player is really fun, and the multiplayer modes can be fun with the right set of friends. The graphics are great, but I wish some more time was put into remastering some of the linear levels and technical anomolies. Overall, if you are a fan of the series, this is a great addition to your gaming libary.

A decent game, but a completely unnecessary remaster. It’s basically a glorified texture pack being sold at a premium price, well above what you could pick up the original for anytime during the past several years. However, even then, the original game did have its fair share of issues that remain with this remaster.

Elite sniper Karl Fairburne is back but too exhausted. Even with all DLC content and 4k resolution.

Sniper Elite V2 Remastered is a nice throwback in the series. While it is more linear than its follow-ups it still packs a visceral punch worth checking out. For those that exhausted the original it might be a tougher sell, but for anyone that passed it up the first time around it is definitely worth a look. Those slow-motion shots still never get old, even to this day.

Sniper Elite V2 gets a remaster but the changes might be as easy to spot as a sniper in a ghillie suit.
