Resident Evil 3

With a sublimely detailed world and breakneck survival-horror gameplay, Resident Evil 3 is just as good as its 2019 predecessor. More, please!

The remake of Resident Evil 3 makes a strong first impression, and its online companion game Resistance has some interesting ideas, but they both struggle to follow through.

The Resident Evil 3 remake, like the original upon which it is based, is inferior to its predecessor.

Both the Nemesis and Raccoon City are massively underused in this disappointing step back for the series.

When I first fired up Resident Evil 3, I worried that its tale of a pandemic turning cities into disease-plagued ghost towns would be more of a depressing reminder of our current reality than escapist entertainment. To wit: A live-action cinematic starts the game with doctors in hazmat suits and government officials telling of a CDC-enforced quarantine.

Another enjoyable reimagining for the Resident Evil series that nails the action but lacks depth.

This is another spectacular remake for the series, and Nemesis is an imposing enemy who relentlessly chases you throughout the game.

PS4, Xbox One, PC; CapcomDealing with a deadly virus seems relevant in this remake, which adds a multiplayer mode, though it's not as meaty as Res Evil 2

I liked it! More than I expected to like it. But at the same time, after six hours of it, I’ve had enough.

It’s still worth playing, but Resident Evil 3 Remake is a step backwards for Capcom, coming off the back of one of the best games of last year. It’s gorgeous to look at, the jump scares will get you, and it’s like stepping into a comfy pair of slippers. But even though your feet are cosy, it never feels like home.
