Why play it

Post Trauma is a game that takes inspiration from classic horror games. Play as Roman, a 57 year old man who has awakened in a strange and hostile place and find a way back home with his family. Get inside this world through fixed camera angles, alternating the gameplay with some sections in first person view. Solve puzzles and riddles with the information you will gather exploring your surroundings. Avoid (or kill) the creatures that you will find along the way, but be careful because some of them might not be hostile.

Even if not all the bugs and errors were ironed out we're still treated to an incredibly charming indie horror that wears its inspirations proudly on its sleeve and will make fans of the old PlayStation era very happy. Post Trauma tells a deeply moving story, perfectly exploits the strengths of fixed camera perspectives despite its technical weaknesses and is ideal for a playthrough in one go. The puzzles are never unsolvable, but still keep you entertained, the combat is more of a secondary concern, and the game would probably have worked just as well without them.

With Post Trauma, Red Souls Games brings us a survival horror game that doesn't seek to reinvent the genre but rather to remind us why we love it, with a compact and challenging experience. It's a video game created by a team of five people, and I'm sure that these aspects are areas for improvement in the future. Despite its ups and downs, I believe it does enough to earn a well-deserved place within the genre, so it's worth venturing into the Penumbra, even if it means hanging a map on the wall.

Post Trauma is a failed attempt to imitate Silent Hill, which is spoiled by a weak story, poor gameplay and a heavy legacy of horror classics.

Post Trauma is a good survival horror title, which has both the good and the bad of resembling the classics of the genre. With somewhat crude animations and a somewhat weak story, it might seem that it is just another title of the bunch, but the good things, such as the atmosphere, the soundtrack and the puzzles could win you over if you are into this type of video games.

After several years of waiting, Post Trauma is finally available on PC and consoles, but what could have been a solid tribute to the horror genre turns out to be a series of disappointing choices that only make us appreciate the classic survival horrors even more.

Fans of classic survival horror will find this modern take on the genre partially satisfying. However, the content is largely unoriginal, and the uncomfortable camerawork is off-putting.

Post Trauma is a return to the roots of the survival horror genre, immersing the player in a dark, puzzling world that captivates from the very first second. The game knows how to utilize the strengths of classic survival horror titles and package them in a modern, yet nostalgic experience. The atmosphere is intense and the puzzles challenging. The game therefore offers exactly what long-time fans of the genre want. Of course, there are minor weaknesses, such as the less spectacular battles or the stiff animations of the protagonist, but these hardly spoil the overall experience. For the price of 15 euros, you get a solid, albeit short, experience that you can definitely play a second time. At a time when the big survival horror franchises are becoming increasingly action-packed, Post Trauma is a welcome change. It reminds us of the golden era of the genre, when the real horror wasn't in the bloody battles, but in the atmosphere, the puzzles and the constant sense of threat. Anyone longing for this experience will find exactly that with Post Trauma: an all-round nostalgia trip that brings the dark corners of the genre back to life.

Post Trauma tries to bring back the horror of the 90s in a mix with the current. However, the way it was done made the game generic and without identity. Although it is not terrible, it is not worth the investment.
