Odallus: The Dark Call

Odallus: The Dark Call provides a satisfying retro experience comparable to other great nostalgic products, such as Shovel Knight or The Messenger. Although brief, it is very entertaining and another demonstration of Brazil's potential in game development.

Odallus: The Dark Call is not a new name for metroidvania fans, but now it's available for every common platform out there. Odallus is a fun, engaging and nostalgic title that every old school Castlevania fan should try. It may not have anything new, but it's a lovely cliché that worth your time.

Odallus: The Dark Call incorporates many retro formulas beautifully while offering simple and authentic gameplay. It's great stuff.

Anyone who grew up loving Castlevania and Demon's Crest, keep this game on your wish list. Just don't pull the trigger until a patch is released.

Odallus is yet another fun platformer for the Switch’s eShop. While it doesn’t offer too much that’s new, it is an incredibly well made and fun NES throwback worth checking out. However, the baffling quirks of the CRT filter and weird control scheme, along with the lack of the achievements from the Steam version make this particular port pretty rough around the edges.

Playing as a warrior by the name of Haggis, you’ll be moving through some cursed lands and slaying demons along the way...

For now, I'll recommend Odallus to those itching for the atmosphere of early Castlevania games and those relishing a good dose of difficulty. More casual fans may want to look elsewhere.

GOOD - Odallus does a good job replicating old-school 8-bit NES adventure games of yore. The lack of button mapping and the inability to remove the scanlines dampened my experience with the game, but it’s still a fun and challenging title that should appeal to veteran gamers.
