More than 25 years later, Myst remains iconic. In virtual reality, the puzzle box still confounds, even as it shows its age.

Read full review ↗The Myst remake does many things right. Unfortunately, it still has a few snags that would keep me from recommending it to veterans over realMyst: Masterpiece Edition. Likewise, most of the adjustments and revisions are made with veteran players in mind while the newer players may feel alienated by the lack of accessibility options.
Read full review ↗Myst is a puzzle game developed and published by Cyan Worlds, Inc. On the island of Myst, mysteries surround the land. Travel between the so-called Eras and solve the puzzles scattered throughout them, while you discover more about a family conflict and its consequences. Pay attention to the clues and unravel all the mysteries in Myst. A revamped classic, Myst delivers a more modern-friendly game without sacrificing its strengths. The puzzles remain interesting and challenging, as they should be, always requiring the player to explore and note down clues (or take photos) to progress. The environments create a pleasant sense of strangeness, like a place with structures that shouldn't be there, but which lend an air of mystery to the game. Everything here is important, and you'll use everything from your logical abilities to your auditory perceptions to advance the story.

However, it is still likely to resonate most strongly with a niche audience that will fully embrace what it offers. Others may admire its legacy, but might not feel compelled to see it through the way it was intended.

The puzzles aren’t stupidly hard, and when I cracked most of them it left me feeling accomplished. Although the story did feel lacking at the start, even after reading the four books we get. My mind was quickly changed, and left wanting more and can’t wait to start playing the sequel Riven. Would I say Myst holds to the test of time? For sure If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend you check it out when you can. But I do confess that I used a guide for the tunnel puzzle, that one is probably the most difficult puzzle the game has. So with all that I am giving Myst the Thumb Culture Gold Award. Here is hoping Riven offers the same great experience.

Read full review ↗Myst VR is an experience built on atmosphere, memory, and quiet wonder. It’s not a perfect remake, nor a modern or particularly accessible game, but it is Myst as it always wanted to be: a silent island to explore, a massive puzzle that wraps around you, a journey driven more by curiosity than skill. Its strength isn’t the graphics or the old‑school gameplay, but the way it turns a collective memory into something new. Seeing the lighthouse, the library, the brothers’ hidden rooms from the inside gives everything a different weight — like returning to a place you visited as a child and realizing it wasn’t a dream. If you love puzzle games or contemplative VR, or simply want to understand why Myst became a cult classic, this version is essential. Just don’t expect hand‑holding: for guided tours, look elsewhere.
