A great farm sim theme executed too blandly to get my blood pumping.

Impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.

Moonlight Peaks is a charming and addictive farming simulator that successfully blends cozy gameplay with a delightful supernatural setting, memorable characters, enjoyable side activities, and a genuinely useful magic system. Its slow and somewhat confusing opening, longer loading times, and a few minor design frustrations hold it back slightly, but the game remains an easy recommendation for fans of spooky and relaxing life sims.

Overall, it is one of the best farming sims I've played since Stardew Valley, which is saying a lot because I've lost myself in several over the years. I can also say it is probably the closest experience to Stardew Valley I've ever come up against, providing gameplay similar enough to feel like a haunted extension of the same universe, but without the sprite graphics or monsters in the mines. All in all, Moonlight Peaks a great game, and I foresee myself staying lost in it for a good, long time.

Most of Moonlight Peaks' problems are only problems if you need to find some. It is inventive enough on its own to be surprising, and makes smart use of genre conventions elsewhere. For anyone who wants to distill it into a simple description, Moonlight Peaks could sit easily among Stardew Valley, Fae Farm and Animal Crossing in the pantheon of life sims.

Moonlight Peaks doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it certainly does well to replace the worn tyres. Featuring a satisfying gameplay loop supplemented by interesting elements of magic, the game manages to be incredibly engaging; sadly, this is let down at times by uneven pacing, rough loading times and characters who seem to lose their sense of self when they leave the cutscenes – even so, the game remains a great time for fans of cosy farming simulators.

All in all, Moonlight Peaks is such a lovingly crafted twist on the cozy farming genre. From the incredible attention to detail and cute atmosphere, to the great story and massive quality-of-life features, the game just has so much going for it. The slow pacing isn’t the biggest issue in the world, just a personal preference, and any lag issues or bugs can easily be fixed with updates down the line. If you are looking for a new charming farming sim to pick up, you should absolutely give this one a go! Today, I am giving Moonlight Peaks the Thumb Culture Gold Award!

Super-cute Moonlight Peaks is a farm life sim that is traditional in its core mechanics yet refreshingly unique on the surface. It sets itself apart from alternatives like Story of Seasons and Stardew Valley primarily through its supernatural elements — a feature that gives this new title a breath of fresh air within the genre. The game is a great choice for life sim fans who are looking to add a touch of the supernatural to their farming endeavors.
