Minecraft is now available on Switch, and it combines the portability of Pocket with the comfort of a console.

Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition is a sandbox gem, and one of the best games to own for PlayStation 4.

The defining game of the last ten years is also one of the most surprising. Minecraft is unmissable.

Intuitively interesting and contagiously fun, with an unparalleled scope for creativity and memorable experiences.

A communal imaginarium, a cultural phenomenon, and an epic social experiment; Minecraft is all of these things and more, but it's also a superb example of gaming's ability to ignite and inspire our fascination with creation.

Even without the ability to install mods and play on infinite worlds propped up by dedicated servers, Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition is still a strong addition to your next-gen library. The improved visuals and larger settings alone make for a significantly better experience than is currently available on older consoles. Granted, the title's not to everyone's tastes, but there's a reason that it's dug a path into the hearts of millions of players since its initial release in 2011 – and you'll probably have an inkling of whether you're a fan by now.

All told, this is yet another excellent port of Minecraft, nothing more and nothing less. With that being said, we would strongly recommend that you pick up this version, as the versatile setup of the Switch allows this to be the most easily accessible and playable Minecraft to date. That convenience factor is the only real notable difference, however, so it’s up to you whether that justifies paying for another version of Minecraft. If you want to play the best portable version of the game, however, look no further.

Minecraft is certainly not a game that will advise you to, say, construct a 60-room palace complete with secret ways, library, speculative chemistry chamber, picture display, underground woods, magma light fixture, and entrance to a Hell measurement.

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is the definitive version of Minecraft on everything but the PC, where the Java Edition will probably remain the preferred version in the foreseeable future due to its easily modded nature. Everywhere else, however, and on the Switch in particular, since it bridges perfectly the worlds of portability and home play, the Bedrock Edition with its heaps of newly added features will be the way forward. It is not perfect (at time of writing) since glitches have found their way in ,which recent updates did not seem to fix at all, but Mojang and Microsoft have proven themselves in the past in their support of the regular Nintendo Switch Edition, so it is safe to assume that these should be completely gone in the not-so-distant future.

Minecraft on the PS4 and Xbox One is a massive improvement over the previous generation of consoles. It is as close to the PC version of the game that we are going to get. The lack of mod support is a let down as this is a major part of what I love about the PC version of the game. PC perks aside, this release of Minecraft has no major drawbacks in terms of what you get from the core game.
