A strong open-world Gotham and trademark Lego slapstick humour powers a fantastic plastic parody of Batman’s greatest hits.

It's still simple, but not quite as simple, it's bursting with even more secrets, and it's another playful take on a mythology that I love. It's the most fun I've had with a Lego game since 2005, and a template for how Lego games can rebuild into something greater, piece by piece.

There are a couple of Arkham games better than this, but also a couple that are worse.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight remixes classic stories and games to provide a single straightforward explanation for who Batman is, how he came to be, and where he and his extended found family has ultimately found themselves – without taking itself too seriously. Condiment King appears more than once, and you get to use Batman's shark repellant.

It's a no-holds-barred approach to the revered character, and though there are spots where the execution could have been better, TT Games included everything I could have asked for in one wholly entertaining package. The Dark Knight has a storied legacy, and this adventure does it justice.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a love letter to not just Batman, but the history of Batman media. While it's a very easy game, that doesn't take the shine off of an experience that left me smiling constantly. Rocksteady's legacy is given the recognition it deserves, and proves there's still a huge demand for the Arkhamverse to rise again.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a catch-all Batman experience that takes liberal inspiration from everything tied to the Caped Crusader.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a great experience overall, and will likely find a passionate audience among those who love this series, but it also won’t do much to convert people who simply don’t enjoy the silly simplicity of the genre.
