I am Jesus Christ is a typical example of a genre whose main characteristic is that, within the context of games on Steam, it is thematically unique. It is a technically well-made game that will find its greatest appeal among people of faith. For 12.49 euros, it offers approximately five to ten hours of gameplay. The game would be best used as a tool for religious education, for example within the family or at school. As such, however, it does not offer much added value.

I Am Jesus Christ is a title that is difficult to judge by the usual gaming standards, because it starts from such a unique concept – almost to the point of seeming unreal – and translates it into a video game that genuinely attempts to do something different from the norm. The problem is that the project’s originality is not enough to make up for a presentation and gameplay that are often more interesting in theory than in practice. It remains, however, a curious, bold and divisive experience, which will be appreciated above all by those drawn to narrative experiments that break the mould!

I Am Jesus Christ is a strange, sincere, and undeniably unique biblical experiment that offers a calm first-person journey through familiar events and moments of spiritual spectacle. Its concept has charm and ambition, but repetitive interactions, uneven voice acting, rough animations, and technical issues make it feel more like an interesting curiosity than a fully convincing game.

Overall it was not that bad, and comes across as rather educational. I would have loved to have played this while in R.E. at high school. As someone who doesn’t follow an any religion, so I could not say if the game follows the New Testament correctly. But ignoring the odd A.I. voices and some uncanny valley looking models, I Am Jesus Christ is enjoyable. Gameplay is fun and simple, and the short mini-games help break up the dialogue between quests. I wouldn’t mind seeing other sims games tell the story of other religious stories, like Muhammed, Dalai Lama, or others from the Bible itself. So I will be giving it the Thumb Culture Silver Award.

What would it be like to experience the Biblical narrative in the Holy Land? I Am Jesus Christ answers this unconventional question in a way never tried before.

A game built on what could be considered the most powerful IP in existence, it carries an almost sacred and reverent tone. Presented from a first-person perspective that follows the life of Jesus Christ, the game falls short of fully encompassing the breadth of the Bible, with a relatively short playtime and some rough edges in its execution. However, it succeeds in conveying the kind of world Jesus sought to create, as well as the core of his teachings.

I Am Jesus Christ is not a good game, nor does it do well in educating in a fun way. Sure, it may be better than the last Jesus Christ game we just reviewed, but that is an extremely low bar. I liked the idea of having open spaces to freely help out the ones in need, but the rest just falls short in just about everyway. The AI voices are distractingly bad, and the mini games are boring and tiresome. The most fun I had was sprinting around the city parkouring off fences, barrels, and rooftops like a holy acrobat.
