Why play it

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation is the remake of Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory for the PlayStation Vita developed by Felistella. It’s time to Nep-Nep like it’s 1989. Neptune’s been sucked into an alternate dimension of Gamindustri! In order for her to escape from this late ‘80s world, Neptune will have to collect enough shares to open up the path to her own dimension. Sounds easy enough – except a nefarious alliance called the Seven Sages wants to rid Gamindustri of all CPUs, including Neptune! Forging cross-dimensional friendships, will Neptune be able to defeat the Seven Sages, save this alternate dimension and get back to her own, or will she be stuck in the ‘80s forever?!

[M]any of the same problems from the previous entries remain. Monster designs are recycled with a few additions. Combat can get somewhat repetitive and maps are reused constantly in which some of them reverse the direction that you approach it.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation is likewise a highly repetitive parody RPG, both within its own structure and in comparison to Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1+ and Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation. The story is somewhat more compelling this time around, and the dialogue once again delivers plenty of references and humor without restraint. At the same time, however, the gameplay remains almost entirely unchanged, which ultimately leaves this entry with only a yellow-light recommendation as well.

Clever writing, daring choices to keep the franchise fresh, and more time-tested comedy make it easy to see how Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation could easily be the peak of the franchise. However, repetitive dungeons and random game crashes harm this port so much that it's hard to recommend to everyone. For fans of the franchise, this is a must-buy, but make sure to save frequently, or else you might have to repeat hours of gameplay due to an unfortunate crash.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3 V GENERATION is a mostly familiar experience, especially if you're coming fresh off Re;Birth2 yet it still provides one charming and hilarious adventure that beautifully ties up the original trilogy. 💜

Despite a lack of innovation, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Generation still managed to charm me with its colourful cast of characters and engaging battle system.

Like most of the other Neptunia games, Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory stands by itself as a self-contained storyline and is as good a place to start with the series as any — though once again, you’ll likely get more enjoyment out of it if you play mk2 or Re;Birth2 at the very least beforehand.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3 is a solid game, and people who have been keeping up with the Re;Birth retellings of the series will want to see this installment. But, if someone has already played Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, he or she could take a pass this time. There are new story and gameplay elements, sure, but not enough this time around to really set this entry apart.
