Halo: Campaign Evolved

Halo: Campaign Evolved speaks to the series' timelessness and adds a decent set of new missions, but it's a mostly a lean retread that's more of a test run for its future with Unreal Engine.

These issues aside, however, Halo: Campaign Evolved is awesome. And that’s not surprising, simply because Halo: Combat Evolved is a fantastic game.

With bonus missions that feel like they've always been there, expertly slotting into the original Halo experience, Campaign Evolved presents an incredible package of old and new that's never looked better. Halo: Campaign Evolved is surface-level impressive. The visuals are gorgeous, even if they muddy readability and necessitate a cluttered HUD, and the mission changes are actually interesting. Halo Studios has made bold moves here, some of them pay off, others don’t.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a serviceable remake of the Xbox classic, even if it wasn't really called for. Not settling for a simple coat of paint, this game takes all the best parts of other Halo games and blends them with revamped graphics to reshape Combat Evolved into a game modern audiences will enjoy. Campaign Evolved feels like a half-step, but one in the right direction. The number of quality-of-life improvements can’t be understated as most of them only help elevate the experience.

Campaign Evolved does not bring evolution to the Halo table. Still, this is the best way to play the original Combat Evolved campaign today.

One or two little issues you can overlook, but there are just so many here in Halo: Campaign Evolved, it's like the Flood.
