Glover

Glover was an ambitious and unique concept back in 1998. Ultimately, it's where the game should remain. It is a shame - with improved controls and tweaks to the design, it could have shown the concept in its best possible light. The badge of a "remaster" really does not qualify as the Nintendo Switch edition feels very much a cash-grab that's building on Nintendo nostalgia. Unless you've got a fondness for Glover, it's difficult to recommend diving into this Nintendo 64 gem in 2025.

Glover offers the nostalgia of the classic late ‘90s era but also presents the challenges of 3D platformers that may prove difficult for many players to handle. If you enjoy a challenge, then Glover may be the game for you.

Glover is still a cute little game that really brings back that vintage N64 Platformer vibe with vibrancy and charming music and, at times, really showcases some clever level design and puzzle elements. But it has technical issues and a control scheme that just does not gel well with modern platforms. Couple with frustrating camera angles and some really tedious sections, this one soon becomes very tough to handle.

Classic 3D platformer that is too old-school for its own good

Tired of Super Mario 64, Banjo & Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64? Try Glover, a different game about collecting items and mainly about passing levels and advancing through different scenarios to save the kingdom. If one word could sum up the game, that word would be “creativity”, and it’s great to be able to revisit – or experience – this journey in HD on the Nintendo Switch.

Glover is a very unique experience: it's a really brilliant platforming idea, which resulted in a game that, while not a masterpiece, is super fun and different from anything else the genre has to offer. But unfortunately the remastering work done for the Nintendo Switch leaves a lot to be desired and it's a little difficult to recommend this version over the N64 version.

Glover is a nice and fun platform video game. With this re-release, veteran players will be able to relive the games they played years ago, and new generations or players who overlooked it will be able to discover it.

I thought for a long time on how to rate this release. From a preservation perspective, Glover is an interesting case indeed, but as a remaster, it barely deserves two stars. However: when the game works and the level design shines (rarely), it does have some fun moments and quirky ideas. The music is also quite catchy in many places, so it's not a completely hopeless case. Nevertheless, Glover would've needed a lot more work to make it more appealing and relevant for younger generations.

Glover returns with very little fanfare and sadly, it's not going to win a new audience with a lackluster remastering. The physics-based puzzles are still fun to attempt, but there's so little else here, one could argue it should have stayed back in the 90's.
