Ghost Master Resurrection is a pretty good remaster of a classic, underappreciated game. It makes it looks a bit more modern, improves the controls, and even adds new content and upgrades. Maybe we are finally due for a breakout new genre about mastering ghosts? That'd be nice.

Ghost Master: Resurrection is an AI-upscaled remaster disguised as an Unreal Engine 5 remake, a practice we simply cannot justify, no matter how you look at it.

Haunting looks completely different when you're controlling the ghosts and trying to scare people. Ghost Master is here to show you just that. Unfortunately, the game is less popular with players these days.

Even if you’re a veteran spook master, I would still recommend Ghost Master: Resurrection. Controls can feel a little awkward on console, and the tutorials could do with improving. However, this was still an enjoyable, light-hearted journey down memory lane. If you’ve never given the original Ghost Master a try, Resurrection is definitely a game worth playing! I’m just glad it’s not an outright horror title, or I’d have been too scared to finish the review… So, for those reasons, Ghost Master: Resurrection receives a frightful Thumb Culture Gold Award!

Ghost Master: Resurrection is a passionate remake of a cult management game from the early 2000s. A blend of strategy and puzzle-solving set against a delightfully ghostly backdrop, the game is a treat for fans of the original thanks to its high fidelity to the source material. Having made that necessary introduction, the Nintendo Switch version is unfortunately not the best platform to experience Mechano Story Studio’s title. Between lengthy load times, various bugs, and technical compromises—both in graphical resolution and frame rate stability—the experience proved less smooth than hoped. A less-than-intuitive interface and a few too many rough edges in the button mapping round out a picture that only marginally benefits from the Nintendo Switch 2’s backward compatibility. Scaring humans is still fun even after more than twenty years... but it’s better to do it elsewhere.

Ghost Master: Resurrection is a game that’s hard to judge definitively. On the one hand, it’s a very successful remake that faithfully recreates the original Ghost Master. It offers significantly revamped visuals, new missions, and additional content that’s set to be expanded further—albeit in the form of paid DLC. On the other hand, when viewed through the lens of today’s standards, it’s hard to overlook its shortcomings. Technical issues, poor optimization, and mediocre graphics mean that despite improvements over the original, the game still feels rather outdated.

Ghost Master: Resurrection offers a unique and surprisingly rich experience, featuring varied haunting mechanics, solid progression through the HQ, and a nice variety of missions and ghosts. The game succeeds in captivating players thanks to its freedom of approach and strategic depth, but it shoots itself in the foot with a dated interface, controls ill-suited to the console, and a glaring lack of explanations. Ultimately, it’s a game that requires patience and adaptability.

Ghost Master: Resurrection remains a unique strategy game built around fear, manipulation, and clever use of supernatural abilities instead of traditional combat. Its mission variety, dark humor, and unusual puzzle design still give it a strong identity, even if outdated AI, unclear objectives, and rough technical edges often remind you of its age.
