Gears of War: Reloaded

One of the most iconic Xbox franchises ever lands on PS5 with somewhat of a graphical thud. On its second remaster, Gears of War: Reloaded won't impress visually. However, with a campaign that still has something to offer despite its dated design, and an excellent multiplayer mode on top, this is a welcome introduction to the Gears of War series. 20 years later, the game that started it all is still more than worth playing.

Gears of War: Reloaded delivers stunning visuals and smooth performance, with 4K textures, upgraded frame rates, and enhanced lighting, making the experience sharper and more immersive than ever. Yet, despite these upgrades, the lack of new content leaves the game feeling very familiar, and the reasons to revisit are sparse.

Playing Gears of War: Reloaded is a beautiful reminder of how far the industry has come and what we've lost along the way. Upfront, Reloaded is a remaster of a remaster and does nothing to improve the nearly twenty-year-old game.

Gears of War: Reloaded offers a solid first impression for PlayStation newcomers, but not all of the 2006 classic holds up as well as we may remember.

The game Gears of War returns in an enhanced version after nearly twenty years, with a graphically improved experience and performance reaching 120 frames with 4K resolution, making returning to the old versions almost impossible. The story remains a strong introduction to the series' events, and the revolutionary gameplay style that inspired many shooter games continues here with greater smoothness, along with a multiplayer mode that includes the favorite classic modes and maps. Despite some flaws such as frame drops in cinematic scenes, this version remains the best and most complete way to go through the experience, whether you are a fan of the series or trying it for the first time.

Gears of War: Reloaded is definitely a good remaster, that takes all the most iconic aspects of the first Gears and re-presents them with spectacular graphics and completely upgraded sound. However, alongside good things, the game also carries with it the inconsistency of some gameplay dynamics of original titles.

Gears of War returns in a new remaster that allows us to look back on one of the modern classics in gaming history while also marking its debut on PlayStation. It's an excellent opportunity to revisit the origins of a formula that remains incredibly popular today. However, I think it's much more enjoyable if you treat it as a piece of history rather than a totally new experience. For better or worse, it's the classic Gears of War experience I remember from two decades ago.

And so the question remains – is there such a thing as too much Gears? I don’t think so, and that is proven with the release of Gears of War: Reloaded; a game that is as good as ever, slightly better looking than before, and now absolutely chock full of content.

The title is exactly what it was twenty years ago, just prettier. The industry however, hasn’t been frozen in time, so certain elements fall short of today’s standards. Still, it's fun if you remember about few cons.

Gears of War: Reloaded is perfect for anyone who wants to revisit the roots of the cover shooter - still an enjoyable experience, even if its age is hard to miss.
