All said, for $25 it’s hard to go wrong with Distance. The intensity and challenge are there, but don’t feel overwhelming outside of where it’s expected like, say, in Challenge mode. While the campaign’s attempt at storytelling can be hit or miss, the strength of its gameplay across all modes carries the day for it. Reckless and wild in all the right ways, Distance is the change of pace in racing games I didn’t realize I needed.

Distance is a racing game which benefits from conventional arcade mechanics, mixed with a beautiful visual style, ambient yet archaic music, and a vast collection of user-generated content. Where it starts to choke is its repeat play value, and a multiplayer that is only as good as the number of players and maps you have.

Distance delivers an unparalleled blend of arcade-racer and environmental experience. Brimming with content, both pre-packaged and fan-made, it's bound to satisfy anyone interested enough to pick it up.

Racing along a track, I dodge the 5 laser-beams trying to cut my car in half. I make it past the 3 saw-blades, spinning in the track. Home free! Oh, a laser across the track – jump over it. Where's the track gone? It's above me… okay, turn on flight mode, perform a 180 rotation in mid-air, and land on the upside-down track. Then it does it again. 180 mid-air rotation.
