Death Relives is a solid choice for those looking for a short, atmospheric horror game with an Aztec twist. It has mood and character, but also, unfortunately quite a few flaws. Still, if you’re a fan of horrors, it plays quite decently, as long as you can forgive its many rough edges and untapped potential. It’s clear the developers ran out of money or time. Or both.
Read full review ↗Death Relives has flashes of brilliance, but its repetitive gameplay and technical hiccups drain the dread from its promising premise. With polish, it could haunt players for all the right reasons.
Read full review ↗Death Relives is a game I wanted to like more than I did. Its cultural grounding is commendable, and there is a kernel of a great horror experience in its premise. But the weak voice acting, dated visuals, questionable environmental design, slow pacing, and repetitive mechanics kept me from ever feeling fully engaged.
Read full review ↗Overall, Death Relives is a great new spin on the horror survival genre and a great first project for Nyctophile Studios. For all horror fans alike, I would recommend adding this to your roster.
Read full review ↗Death Relives is a bold but flawed attempt to blend Aztec mythology with modern horror mechanics. The environment is engaging, and the sound design delivers genuine scares. However, the inconsistent pacing, repetitive puzzles, limited enemy variety, and mediocre technical execution prevent the game from reaching its full potential. The innovative companion app and cultural elements are commendable, but their poor polishing limits the impact of the experience.
Read full review ↗Death Relives quickly lost the interest of this horror fan. Though it’s built upon a strong concept, the concept alone is not strong enough to carry other aspects of the game that fail to fit into its genre or generally excite. While I wouldn’t call Death Relives a winner, I eagerly look towards what comes next from this studio and to see if they learn from the mistakes of their first title.
Read full review ↗Death Relives is the kind of game that makes you question your life choices because of the slow drain of wasted time. Its ambition is buried under poor execution, lifeless AI integration, and half-formed mechanics. Even its better ideas, like the puzzles, are let down by clunky design. There’s simply nothing here worth your time, money, or patience.
Read full review ↗A unique "What if?" story based on Aztec mythology turns into a truly different experience when combined with a horror theme - that is, as long as the game doesn’t crash.
Read full review ↗Blending Aztec mythology with modern life, this game offers a unique story and an intriguing premise. Once progression-blocking bugs are fixed, it could be a worthwhile experience for puzzle-loving players who enjoy the stealth and evasion aspects of survival games.
