There's been no shortage of great games this year, but Darksiders: Warmastered Edition still holds up exceptionally well, and it's easy to recommend. It's not quite as fresh and exciting as it was in 2010, but I still think it's something everyone should try out. If you've played it before, it's worth revisiting. If you haven't, it's a solid adventure that's well worth your time. The budget price makes it a great value, with a campaign that will take most people between 12 to 20 hours to complete. I'm glad to see that THQ Nordic seems interested in keeping the series in the public eye, and I hope this means that the Darksiders franchise will be resurrected. I look forward to seeing how Pestilence and Famine will play in Darksiders 3 and 4.

Minor conversion issues aside that can likely be solved, Darksiders: Warmastered Edition has the intrinsic fortune of being a timeless looker with its distinct visuals, which benefits from appropriate resolution and performance buffs that bring it up to speed. A fantasy world that retains its wonder and gracefully aged gameplay easily ensure that this game's horseman can confidently cometh again.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is a faithful port of the original that brings every slash of Chaoseaster and every bloody execution to Nintendo Switch in all its glory. While still the inferior entry in the Darksiders trilogy, this first outing is still a robust action-platformer full of satisfying melee combos, open-ended levels and a suitably over-the-top story. Easily one of the most underrated franchises to appear in the previous generation, Darksiders is a solid port that finally unleashes the Apocalypse in handheld form.

Even though this is a remake of a six-year-old game, it still holds up pretty well as far as gameplay is concerned. Darksiders: Warmastered Edition looks at its best at 4K resolution and as a game, it's better than its sequel.

Loaded with humor, skill-based action and interesting brainteasers, the original Darksiders is one of the best games to come out of the last generation. It takes numerous recipes from other games and creates an adventure that’s worth taking. Having a better looking version of that sold at a fair price made available to the current gen makes Darksiders: Warmastered Edition absolutely worth the time.

Darksiders Warmastered Edition brings War’s first campaign back with direct combat, clever dungeon tools, and a comic-book apocalypse that still has personality. The PS5 version improves the return with 4K rendering, 60 FPS, DualSense support, Activities support, and Photo Mode, though the camera, platforming, and older visual details show the game’s age. It’s a clear fit for newcomers and returning fans who want War’s campaign with a cleaner console upgrade.

While the PS5 version does launch with a handful of technical issues and a somewhat underwhelming Photo Mode, the core experience remains every bit as compelling as it was years ago. The higher resolution, smoother performance, DualSense support, and overall presentation improvements make this the best way to experience War's story today. If you are a longtime fan looking for an excuse to revisit one of the series' greatest adventures, this is an easy recommendation. If you have never played Darksiders before, there may not be a better time to see why so many people still consider it the best entry in the franchise. With Darksiders 4 approaching, this feels like the perfect opportunity to return to where it all began.

Finally officially arriving on current-generation consoles, Darksiders Warmastered Edition is a good action-adventure game. Fighting as the powerful War against the armies of Heaven and Hell on a destroyed Earth provides epic battles and moments. Even if somewhat out of date, the challenges are well-constructed, as are the characters and other elements of the game. A great option for long-time fans or anyone wanting to discover a new, high-quality franchise.

While technically the best version of an incredible classic, the Darksiders Warmastered Edition update for the current generation offers subtle improvements to the controls, as well as minor tweaks to smoothness and resolution. This package, however, may not justify a new financial investment for those who would like to play it on PlayStation 5, except for die-hard fans or new enthusiasts who want to get to know the franchise.
