Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3

Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 does enough to make it worth a punt. The story is silly and funny, and the action on display, the so called “matchroidvania”, does enough to make it addictive and playable.

The most fun I’ve had with Match 3 since Metropolis: Lux Obscura back in 2017, the sense of humour and light-hearted style perfectly ‘matches’ the game mechanics, a great twist in a genre that can be pretty standard and functional…I just need to wait for Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 5 now.

Obviously, the match-3 genre isn’t known for producing a lot of innovation – unless you count finding new ways to get people addicted innovative. But Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is a clear exception to that rule. It’s addictive, sure, but it’s also interesting, and fleshed-out, and funny. Whether you’re a fan of the genre or someone who usually can’t stand it, you owe it to yourself to check this game out.

Under all the dinosaurs, the bug hunting, and the match-3 boards, it is at its core a love letter to game development and an indictment of the industry as it exists now.

Proving once more that Strange Scaffold is the indie king of weird, creative titles, Creepy Redneck Mansion 3 is another joyous romp under the studio's now 10-titles-deep belt. Continuing the current Match 3 renaissance with meaningful turn-based battles with countless implementations of strategy, it's only let up by the occasional frustrating encounter and not all that fun ending chasing in the game's last act. Still managing to find the time for topical commentary on the state of game development amongst its kooky world, it's a venture that's more than the sum of its parts and with a surprising amount of bite for a puzzle game… just be wary they may very well come from that creepy Pclowntadactyl awaiting you around the next corner.

Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is a personification of both the joy and the frustration of game development in an industry that seems happy to toss developers aside with regularity. When that happens, games like CRDM3 can end up forgotten, their characters left to wander empty halls. But when passionate folks like the teams at Strange Scaffold and Frosty Pop fight for the marvelously strange ideas, for the oddball characters, and for match-3 games, a clever little project just might make it to your PC against the odds.
