City Tales - Medieval Era does a great job at offering a chill, yet still very well-made city building experience. It’s not as intense and challenge-filled like other similar games. Instead, it offers a dreamy and fun world that you can explore at your pace. Yes, you won’t have the realistic graphics of a game like Anno 117, nor does the game want that. But the visual style is very beautiful in its own right, and creating your own medieval town is a lot of fun.

City Tales - Medieval Era is a pleasant and addictive game where you can relax without worrying about losing or facing negative consequences from your decisions. You build your own medieval city, which is constantly growing, and its residents bombard you with requests that ensure you’ll never get bored. The game isn’t complicated, but a clearer graphical interface and more detailed task descriptions wouldn’t hurt. Better optimization would also be welcome. Otherwise, though, it’s a charming and entertaining game that I’d recommend to any fan of city-building simulators.

Overall, City Tales – Medieval Era is a great game for anyone who enjoys the city-building and management genre but wants a stress-free experience. It’s also an excellent start into the genre if you have not played similar games before and don’t want to be thrown into the cold water straight away. Even though the endgame does drag a little, and I’d honestly like a faster speed-up button, I’ve had a blast playing. I’m absolutely going to keep grinding for the last few achievements. All in all, I am giving City Tales – Medieval Era the Thumb Culture Gold Award!

City Tales: Medieval Era shows that city-building games can still shine with strong atmosphere, accessibility, and well-paced ideas. Starting as a calm kingdom-building experience, it gradually reveals depth through companion stories, flexible difficulty, and a satisfying expansion system. While not reinventing the genre, it refines its ideas, making it a great choice for both newcomers and veterans.

City Tales - Medieval Era is not only a truly successful debut from the small development team at Irregular Shapes but also one of the best city builders currently available on the market. The game pleasant audiovisual presentation gives it a fantastic, almost idyllic atmosphere, making the hours spent playing pass by completely unnoticed.

I love all the little changes that have been made. I think City Tales – Medieval Era is a great, peaceful city builder. The music is perfect, the visuals are great, and the companion system is wonderful. I like the new pacing, the new districting, and the massive amounts of additions that were made. Overall, I found City Tales – Medieval Era to be a pleasant time, and I applaud these developers for such a well-made game with a strong 1.0. If you enjoy cozy city builders with fun little side companion stories, this is the perfect one for you.
