Why play it

Bzzzt is a fast-paced 2D platformer highly inspired by games from 80's. You become an artificial intelligence ZX8000 and in your newly obtained robotic body, you must prove your abilities in a series of testing chambers filled with deadly traps.

Story and worldbuilding

The year is 4096. In a top-secret laboratory, inventive Doctor Emily and world-renowned Professor Norbert are working on a highly classified project. Through their joint research and intellect, they finally created a tiny robot with a big AI personality! No larger than a regular household toaster, but with some extraordinary skills, ZX8000 is ready to save the world, one platform challenge at a time! Meanwhile, other dark influences are at play in the world of Bzzzt. The evil mad scientist, Badbert, prepares to unleash his nefarious plans upon an unsuspecting world as soon as he finds the perfect equilibrium of darkness, malice and madness. Bwahahaha. Grab your controller or keyboard and navigate ZX8000 to complete his missions and thwart Badbert's evil plans! Be the robot that rescues the world!

Bzzzt is a solid bite-sized action platformer that is elevated thanks to its incredible pixel art and music. The generic story won't be the reason why anyone plays it and might make the game forgettable, but the gameplay and challenge leave a lingering impression. For its price, there is no going wrong with it, and fans of the genre will be engaged by its tight mechanics.

BZZZT might not be a game that breaks the platforming mould, but it's a hell of a good time with tight controls and varied stages.

The amount of love and care that went into developing BZZZT really shows thanks to its awesome world and fine-tuned stage designs.

I never quite got over busting myself down to the very easy difficulty, though it actually made the game both fun and attainable while still being shockingly hard. BZZZT takes no prisoners and you shouldn’t expect mercy if you plan to spend any time with this game whatsoever. If you like to bleed, strap in. If you don’t, you might want to find another robot with whom to party.

BZZT exudes a retro-style setting. It focuses on continuous training. Levels at first are a form of warm-up to eventually test your skills and patience. You won't break your fingers, you won't tear your hair out of your head, but it will be fun. And after all, that's what it's all about, right?

A colorful and tightly-controlled blast of old-school-meets-new-school platforming action

BZZZT is, first and foremost, a challenge. So once you’ve worked your way through the main story, you can seamlessly continue by completing the game to 100%, fulfilling bonus challenges, or beating the high scores. But if you’re not a fan of platformers that punish you for every mistake, don’t even try it.

Everything about Bzzzt makes it stand out from the crowd. It’s a very fun old-school platformer that manages to stand out even in a very crowded genre, and it’s definitely worth picking up.

Extremely challenging but imaginative levels with references to many classic games of history are great for hardcore players. However, newbies, casual and regular players will have much more trouble and less fun.

Bzzzt is definitely everything I want in a retro-style platformer. It's fun with great controls and music to make you keep going even after 100 deaths. I cannot recommend this game enough.
