Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a solid update of one of Square's finest modern turn-based RPGs. Its combination of a flexible job system, dynamic combat, and unexpectedly interesting story makes for an adventure that no fans of the JRPG genre will want to miss out on, especially any such fans that enjoyed Team Asano's more recent work on the Octopath Traveler duology. That in mind, there isn't really anything new in this remaster that justifies the price of a double dip-if you already put a lot of time into this one on the 3DS back in the day, I'd caution you to first consider just how badly you want to spend your money on what ultimately amounts to little more than a nice visual bump. All the same, Bravely Default was and still is a great RPG; if you haven't had the chance to give this one a shot yet, this port is a great way to see what the fuss is about.

Flawed though it is, I would still recommend it as a truly unique experiment, blending classic vibes with an innovative spirit that earns it the right to be revisited in this more polished form over a decade after its original release.

Read full review ↗A good remaster of a fantastic Nintendo DS RPG, and now available on PC, “Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster” is a must have for those craving a more traditional JRPG story with engrossing combat and job mechanics.
Read full review ↗Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a great opportunity to experience one of the Nintendo 3DS's most memorable RPGs. Its combat system remains solid, the main cast continues to be charismatic, and the artistic direction is still charming, now enhanced by HD visuals. Despite this, none of the title's rough edges were trimmed, causing the campaign's pace to remain irregular and the difficulty balancing inconsistent.
Read full review ↗Bravely Default remains a masterclass in turn-based strategy, leveraging its addictive risk-reward combat and deep job system to outshine dated "chibi" aesthetics. While the remaster’s visual cohesion is hit-or-miss on larger screens, the ingenious mechanics and quality-of-life updates successfully modernize this quintessential JRPG relic.

Read full review ↗BRAVELY DEFAULT FLYING FAIRY HD Remaster is a very satisfying JRPG experience, whether you are entering Luxendarc for the first time or coming back after years of playing it on the 3DS. It’s a must-play game because it has a great mix of story depth, strategic combat, character development, and great sound and graphics. It also continues one of Square Enix’s most popular franchises. It’s a great place for newcomers to start, and for veterans, it’s a refreshed trip that’s worth taking again.
Read full review ↗When Bravely Default launched, it was a very solid 3DS exclusive RPG with combat system taking a new approach. Its HD version show that this JRPG aged well and the better graphics enhances visual experience, astonishing atmosphere and great tactics. It is a double return ' to FF roots and its own start with perfect Brave & Default moves.
Read full review ↗Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a solid remaster of an excellent game. The visuals do leave a bit to be desired, but make no mistake: this is a fantastic game with an outstanding soundtrack, a well-rounded cast, and an engaging combat system. While I wish that more effort had been put into bringing this remaster up to 2025 standards, it's still Bravely Default on a modern platform—and it's hard to complain about that.
