A polished, wide-ranging update that brings the classic RTS into the modern age.
Read full review ↗Given the scarcity of successors, then, I see no reason why Microsoft shouldn’t just keep making this game bigger and bigger and bigger, lumping all the bits together every few years and slapping it down with nicer animations, until it’s got ten thousand missions and includes “Dudley” as a civilisation because they ran out of ideas. That would be fine by me. Long live the (Age of) King(s)

For hardcore RTS fans who are itching to pick something new up this is a must buy, and an adaptable AI difficulty level means there’s something for everyone.

Read full review ↗Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on PS5 is a successful revival of a legendary strategy game, enhanced with visual, audio, and technical improvements that make it an enjoyable experience for both newcomers and longtime fans of the series. The support for mouse and keyboard, along with the refined control system, proves that strategy games can truly shine on home consoles. We strongly recommend it to anyone seeking a deep and rich strategic experience.
Read full review ↗Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is an exemplary case of refreshing classic RTS games. The developers didn’t try to forcibly revolutionize or alter the iconic title but focused solely on enhancing its visuals and adapting it to the expectations of modern players. As a result, the game is equally enjoyable for veterans who remember the original and for new players encountering a real-time strategy game for the first time. Hopefully, this example will help other developers understand what truly matters in a great RTS.
Read full review ↗Age of Empires II Definitive Edition is exactly as we remembered it: a frighteningly beautiful, unmissable RTS, replete, moreover, with content after a decades-long support that now brings an almost embarrassing amount of gameplay hours to PS5. Plus, here's The Three Kingdoms, what is perhaps the strangest and yet most successful expansion in AOE2's entire history. Congratulations to all, long live Age of Empires.
